Terms of service

Containment & Safety Requirements

For the safety of our staff, your dog(s), and the general public, all dogs must be securely contained upon our arrival. This may include being crated indoors or secured in a fenced yard. Gates and fences must be intact and secure. Where possible, please ensure your dog does not have visual access to visitors entering your property.

Equipment Standards

We require all dogs to be fitted with appropriate training equipment for their safety and the success of the session.
Approved materials include:

  • Leather, Gripper, or Fibertek leads/collars, high quality CottonWebbing

  • Secure and properly fitted collars (not excessively loose or tight)

  • No plastic buckle collars or gear

  • Please ensure equipmentis in working condition and not damaged ( for example; no frayed leads or collars, no rusty buckles)

Unsure if your equipment meets our safety standards? Please send us a photo prior to the session. If needed, we can assist you in sourcing suitable alternatives.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

To reschedule or cancel a session, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required.
Cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment will result in forfeiture of the session.
We understand life happens—exceptions may be made under extenuating circumstances at our discretion.

Session Termination

Leash Free Hounds prioritises safety and hygiene. Sessions may be terminated without refund if:

  • The environment is deemed unsafe for training

  • The location is unhygienic or unsuitable for the work being undertaken

This decision lies solely with the attending trainer.

Refunds, Transfers & Expiry of Sessions

Leash Free Hounds does not offer refunds for training sessions once booked. However, we understand that circumstances change. Sessions may be transferred to a family member or friend, provided we are notified in advance. Alternatively, the value of an unused session can be credited toward other Leash Free Hounds services, including boarding, board & train programs, or online training.

Our sessions do not expire. You are welcome to use your remaining sessions at any point in the future—whether it's in 6 months, 12 months, with your current dog or your next one. We're here when you're ready to continue.

Please contact us directly to arrange a transfer or credit to another service.

Reactivity & Safety Measures

If your dog displays reactive behaviour, our trainers will guide you through safe management protocols.
In some cases, muzzle training may be recommended. This is a non-negotiable requirement for continuing services in such cases, to ensure safety for all involved.

Training Approach & Methodology

At Leash Free Hounds, we take a holistic approach to dog training. This means we consider your dog’s emotional, physical, mental, and even spiritual well-being throughout the training process. Our methods are thoughtful, ethical, and results-driven, built on a foundation of trust and clear communication.

While our primary goal is to use positive, proactive strategies, there may be situations involving unsafe or unwanted behaviours where aversive incentives are carefully and responsibly implemented. These are never our first option, and when used, are applied with the utmost care, intention, and adherence to best practices.

Our commitment is to support both dog and handler through compassionate, tailored training that fosters understanding, growth, and a stronger relationship between you and your dog.

Veterinary Health & Behaviour

Unresolved medical issues often underlie behavioural concerns.

If we suspect a health-related cause for your dog’s behaviour, we may postpone training until a veterinary assessment is completed.

Failure to seek veterinary advice where necessary may result in cancellation of sessions or termination of your training package.

Welfare concerns may also be reported where applicable.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

For your safety during training sessions, please wear:

  • Closed-toed shoes (mandatory) that are suitaable for physical activity. Like runners, hiking boots or work boots. (sorry moccasins and ugg's don't count)

  • Long pants (recommended)

Failure to follow PPE guidelines is done at your own risk. Leash Free Hounds is not liable for any injury sustained due to non-compliance.

Client Conduct

We treat all clients and dogs with respect, professionalism, and compassion—and we expect the same in return.

Abusive, aggressive, or disrespectful behaviour will result in immediate termination of services without refund.

Training Outcomes & Client Responsibility

Training results rely heavily on your consistency and engagement.
Failure to follow homework or implement guidance may limit your dog’s progress.

If you are working with another trainer, this must be disclosed prior to your session to avoid conflicting strategies.

Progress is dictated by the dog's pace, not ours—commitment, practice, and patience are key.

Social Media & Media Use

Photos or videos captured during sessions may be used by Leash Free Hounds for educational or promotional purposes.

If you prefer to opt out, please let us know in writing prior to your session.

Ongoing Support

At Leash Free Hounds, we genuinely care about your long-term success and want you to feel supported beyond your booked sessions. We encourage all our clients to stay in touch and ask questions—whether it’s a quick message, a phone call, or a follow-up session.

Some questions can easily be resolved through messaging, while others may need a phone chat, an online consult, or a face-to-face catch-up. We're always happy to hear from you, even well after your training has officially ended. It’s much better to address a potential issue early before it becomes a bigger challenge.

We operate under a fair use policy:

  • Phone calls and messaging support are welcomed and encouraged.

  • If the support required becomes more involved, we’ll let you know in advance if a charge may apply.

  • Online and in-person follow-up sessions will always be billed as separate services.

We're here to help you and your dog thrive—don't hesitate to reach out.

Payments & Booking Policy

All sessions must be prepaid to confirm your booking.

This policy helps us manage scheduling and reduces last-minute cancellations that impact our availability.
By making payment, you acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined in this document.
